Paralegals hold an important role within the legal sector, working alongside other legal professionals within law firms, public sectors, or non-profit organisations. As a paralegal holds a lot of legal responsibility, they must have an understanding of the legal system and hold a form of legal training or qualification.
Becoming a paralegal doesn’t always mean you have to have a Law Degree. However, an employer will look for individuals who have a form of paralegal training as it shows they have the theoretical and practical skills needed to effectively work as a paralegal. Paralegal training can be found through legal training providers such as Datalaw, who provide all the necessary resources for candidates to become a nationally recognised paralegal.
Datalaw’s Level 3 Paralegal Qualification and Law Apprenticeship is a nationally recognised qualification for those looking to become a paralegal and those with some paralegal experience who are looking to progress their career in the legal sector. As a 95% government funded qualification the Education & Skills Funding Agency (the ESFA) have set aside this government funding in the form of the apprenticeship levy to train professionals in work to increase talent acquisition and career progression. Because Datalaw is approved by the Education & Skills Funding Agency, they can take advantage of this funding on a firm’s behalf, allowing the firm to claim up to £7,600 in government funded training.
Accredited by Ofqual and Apprenticeship Standards, candidates will receive the highest standard of training that combines the academic and practical skills required to work within the legal sector. The learner will receive online modules, workbooks, resources and 1-2-1 coaching on several different areas of law, client care, file management, professional skills and so much more. Combining essential legal theory and practical occupational training, Datalaw can tailor this qualification to suit all levels of support staff in most areas of law.
So, what will a learner gain from the Level 3 Paralegal Qualification? When a learner has completed their legal qualification, they will hold a diploma from the National Association of Licensed Paralegals (NALP) and will be added to NALP’s register, as well as being awarded a Level 3 in Paralegal training (equivalent to A-level in Law). Furthermore, upon completion of this course each paralegal will become an eligible fee earner. As those working in a law firm who have the Level 3 Paralegal Diploma can charge fee-earning at grade D of the Law Society’s Guideline Hourly Rates.
The structure of the Level 3 Paralegal Qualification involves three mandatory modules: Introduction to Law for Paralegals, Legal Ethics and Responsibilities for Paralegals, and Professional Skills for Paralegals. Once the mandatory units are completed the learner will be able to choose from the optional modules for their technical legal knowledge, these include Civil Litigation for Paralegals, Criminal Litigation for Paralegals, Conveyancing for Paralegals, Employment Practice for Paralegals, and Wills & Succession for Paralegals. Throughout the duration of this qualification learners will be provided occupational certificates as and when they complete each training module, which can be used as evidence towards the learner’s paralegal legal knowledge.
Unlike other apprenticeship providers, Datalaw provides flexible start dates by accepting new cohorts every three months within the year. Meaning learners can get started on their paralegal training as soon as possible.
